SVS 35

30. OM NIDHAYE AVYAYAYA NAMA:
Possessor of Unabated Wealth

We are at Sri Rangam. Nidhi = wealth, avyaya = never diminishing. In Swami Madwa [of Dwaitam philosophy] bhashyam, this name is considered as two separate names, Nidhi [Wealth] and Avyaya [Core of Surya, the Sun]. Sri Ranganatha is the Wealth stored between the two rivers [Kollidam and Kaveri]. He grants all the needs of His devotees, but His wealth remains in tact and there is no reduction in them. Swami Alavandar was the grandson of Swami Nathamuni, who wanted his grandson to realize the wealth of God. Swami Alavandar, was ruling a territory and he had no inclination to God. But to carry out the wishes of his Acharya, one of the disciples of Swami Nathamuni, Swami Manakkal Nambi by name, devised a plan. He supplied to the kitchen of Swami Alvandar some greens [tuduvalai] daily and Swami Alavandar relished the preparation, not knowing who supplied that vegetable. Once Swami Manakkal Nambi, stopped the supply to know the reaction. As expected Swami Alavandar asked the cook as to why tuduvalai greens were not prepared. When the cook said that the person supplying had halted, Swami Alavandar wanted to see him and Swami Manakkal Nambi could meet him. At that time he revealed to Swami Alavandar, that his grand father had left a precious treasure and that he wanted to hand over that. Swami Alavandar desirous of acquiring more wealth, accompanied Swami Manakkal Nambi, who took him to Sri Ranganatha at Srirangam. With His grace, Swami Alavandar realized what he had missed all those days and transformed into an Acharya. So, He has this name of Unabated Wealth.
