73. OM MADHAVAYA NAMA: ॐ माधवाय नम:
Consort of Sri MahaLakshmi.

Bhoogarbha indicated He is the Consort of Sri Bhoodevi and now today's [30th May 2008] Divine name mentions He is the Consort of the God of auspiciousness, Sri MahaLakshmi. She, according to shastras and Acharyas, is One but appearing in three forms to please the Lord. Swami Nadathur Ammal says, 'akarathraya sampannam aravinda nivasinim
asosha jagatistreem vande varada vallabham.'
In temples Thayar is present in three forms as Laya archai, Bhoga archai and Kamya archai. She graces from the right chest of the Lord and secondly as Sri Devi and Bhu Devi. Thirdly, She graces as the Main Queen of the Lord and graces from a separate sannidhi. These are the three forms. Similarly, She is present in three forms as Sri MahaLakshmi, Sri Bhoodevi and Sri Neeladevi. 'Ma' indicates Sri MahaLakshmi. In Srimad Ramayana, the first sloka is 'manishada pradhishtantham' and indicates Sri Srinivasa. Therefore the Lord is Sri Madhava. Poet Venkatadvari has composed Sri Lakshmi sahasram, consisting of 1000 poems all in praise of Sri MahaLakshmi. While all pray for Her blessings, She remains to please the Lord and so the Lord's greatness can not be easily estimated. She never even for a fraction of a second deserts Him. When devas and asuras wanted to churn the ocean to obtain inferior amrut, the Lord helped them by providing them strength and later He himself churned; but He wanted to get back Sri MahaLakshmi hiding under the ocean. As She came out, under the watchful eyes of all, She got back to Her seat on the right chest of the Lord. With Her grace many got their high positions as Indra, Brahma, etc. Her constant viewing is the Lord.

72. OM BHOOGARBHAYA NAMA: भूगर्भा नम:
Consort of Sri Bhoomipiratti.

Divine names 70,71,72,73 and 74 tell us the greatness of the Lord in Vaikuntam and His parathvam. He graces as the Sri, Bhoomi, Nila devi sametha Lord. He is the Darling of Bhoomi Devi and protects Her like a pregnant Mother caring for Her child in the womb. Normally, we are to offer the food cooked to the Lord and then take that food. Offering thus is called kandarula pannuvadhu [கண்டருளப் பண்ணுவது]. It means literally showing to Him, as we do not have the capacity to offer food for Him to eat. Alwar calls Him, possessing mouth to devour the world [உலகம் உண்ட பெருவாயா].
In all avatars the Lord rescues and protects the World and the people. Mother Earth is not feeling the burden of huge mountains nor the vast oceans nor all the trees and other living beings;but She is unable to bear wicked persons like Hiranyakasipu or Ravana, who proclaim enmity with the Lord. In Sri Krishna avatara, since Mother Earth prayed for rescue, in the form of a cow, the Lord appeared as a cowherd and protected Her. When Hiranyaksha carried away Mother Earth, the Lord appeared as a gigantic Boar and rescued [Swami Desika - Maha Pothri]. We can worship the Lord as Sri Varaha on the banks of Ananthasaras pushkarini in Sri Varadaraja Swami temple, Kanchipuram. Sri Andal is the incarnation of Sri Bhoodevi.

71. OM HIRANYAGARBHAYA NAMA: हिरण्यगर्भा नम:

Living in very much desired place, Paramapadam, also known as the Golden place.

We are seeing Parathvam guna of the Lord. To get satva guna and become satvika, we have to have proper food and Swami Desika has made a compilation of do’s and don’ts regarding eating in Ahara niyamam. Whatever food we eat should have been first offered to the Lord. In our house we eat food prepared but our family members. They prepare and serve with care and affection and so the food also induces good qualities. Same can not be told of food in hotels and public places. We have heard of the story of Thrisanku, while knowing the episodes of sage Viswamitra, who created a separate world for him. Thrisanku is not the original name of that king and thrisanku means one who has committed three great sins. One of the great sins this person committed was that he ate food without offering to the Lord.

Today’s [28th May 2008] Divine name is hiranyagarbha. He is the Head of Vaikuntam and bestows everything on all. Hiranya means gold and it is precious. Because it is precious everyone wants to possess it. Similarly, the Lord is liked by all. When Dasaratha wanted to know whether he could crown Sri Rama, all people in one voice wanted Sri Rama as the King. Vaikuntam is known as Golden place [ponnulakam]. In Srimad Bhagavatham, sage Sukha describes the grandeur of Paramapadam to King Parikshit. It is made of pure satva quality [suddha satva mayam]. So it is always full of happiness. We experience total happiness [paripoorna bhagavathanubhavam].

70. OM PRAJAPATHAYE NAMA: प्रजातये नम:
Leader of most eminent Nithyasuris.

These Divine names are describing His supremacy [Parathvam]. The Lord has both Parathvam and Soulabhyam [simplicity]. Either of these alone will not be useful to His devotees. Soulabhyam means the quality of mixing with persons lower than Him. Gold is very precious and one has to make great efforts to earn gold. Once acquired, its possessor gets all fame and respect. Garbages are available in plenty but none tries to collect and store them. Prajapathi usually means King. But the Lord is the leader of all the usual prajapathi we hear. Still He is approachable by ordinary persons like us. At the same time He can grant anything we wish. In fact He can offer Himself to us. Just like the thread that binds flowers to form a garland gets all the respects for the flowers, by chanting or by speaking His names, the speaker also is respected. Ordinary persons in this world, who are regarded as powerful or great, can not be approached anytime and we have to see his mood before we go for a favor. Valmiki, before starting on writing Srimad Ramayana meets sage Narada and asks a question sampradham loke gunavan ka:? Actually the question should be who is great in character? But Valmiki asks who is great in character at all times [ sampradham - सामप्रधम ]? This is the difference between the Lord and other prajapathis. Swami Ramanuja calls the Lord as Akilajagat swamin [leader of all in all worlds at all times]. His friendly approach to gopikas, Guha and Sabari proclaim His soulabhyam.

69. OM SRESHTAYA NAMA: श्रेष्ट :
Famous for granting the permanency of Nithyasuris.

Today's [26th May 2008] lecture is also from Perumpuliyur. It is said that when Thirumazhisai Alwar was in this place, the Lord [in the idol form] turned to the direction wherever the Alwar was. Hearing this a great scholar - Perumpuliyur Adigal- wanted to honour the Alwar by inviting him to the yagna he was performing. But there were a few who did not realize the greatness of the Alwar, objected. On knowing this Alwar meditated on the Lord in his heart and as a consequence the Lord appeared in those few persons conscience and made them to realize the Alwar properly.
Jyeshta was explained as the Lord is the One possessing the highest qualities. Sreshta also conveys the same meaning. In Mahabharatha we learn that when that Yudhishtra performed the Rajasooya yagna, all persons like Sahadeva insisted that the Agrapooja [ First rights] was to be conferred on Sri Krishna as He was the sreshta. Wicked persons like Sisupala objected and abused the Lord and were killed. As we saw in last Divine name, Valmiki calls Sri Rama jyeshta and sreshta. He grants the unparalleled bliss to His devotees. Worldly pleasures get stale after sometime. But the Lord gives His devotees pleasure afresh every time [ அப்போதைக்கு அப்போது ஆராவமுதமே!]. Swami Desika felt that even to elaborate a drop of His ocean of qualities, he found it extremely difficult. What to speak of us, then? But it is enough if we realize He is greatest. We can enjoy the sweetness explained by Alwars and Acharyas. He is always enjoyed by the Nthyasuris.

68, OM JYESHTA: ज्येष्ट:
In high esteem.

We are at Perumpuliyur, in Chola region. Though not one among the 108 Divya desam, it is a famous one and still retaining the very eco-friendly as not many visitors come here. Thirumazhisai Alwar is connected with this place. This place had an agraharam, where brahmins lived. They were once practicing vedas. At that time this Alwar entered the street. Not knowing that this Alwar was the incarnation of Sudarsana and considering only his non-brahmin birth, the brahmins stopped the chanting. When Alwar was about to leave, these brahmins did not know where they stopped the vedas and were struggling. Alwar realizing their plight indicated the place where they had stopped the Vedas by certain signs and this enabled the brahmins to continue. Then only they realized the greatness of the Alwar and his proficiency in vedas. The Lord here is Sri Sundara Varadarajan. Jyeshta means highly esteemed. He is highly esteemed for His qualities, for His actions, for His position. His greatness knows no bounds. When Dasaratha wanted to coronate Sri Rama as the King of Ayodhya, Dasaratha called all people and asked for their opinion. Unanimously, everyone declared that they were waiting for Sri Rama to be crowned. Poet Valmiki says at this point jyeshta sreshta. Sri Rama was no doubt the eldest; but He was much above all others in respect of every quality and not merely age.
He is also simple and approachable for true devotees. He will be an obedient servant to such devotees. Instances in Thirumazhisai Alwar's life and the way Sri Rama and Lakshmana followed sage Viswamitra are examples in this regard.

67. OM PRANAYA NAMA: प्राणा नम:
Life of all.

We should remember that by chanting His Divine names, our mind gets purified. After getting up, remembering the Lord as the Protector of Gajendra the elephant from the clutches of crocodile, will make our activities in that day smooth and successful. He is called prana: as without Him or separated from Him is unthinkable for great souls. Gopis and Gopikas enjoyed the company of Sri Krishna. They were not learned and did not know shastras. When Kamsa sent Akrura as an emissary to bring Sri Krishna from Brindavan to Mathura, Akrura told the gopikas the purpose of his visit. On hearing all the gopikas fainted and fell down. They accused Akrura for separating Sri Krishna from them; and they praised the rakshasas who never indulged in separating Sri Krishna. They further blamed that Akrura was more a demon in the guise of a Bhakta! They considered Sri Krishna as their soul, life or prana. We in spite of our learning do not have this feeling when we see the Lord in temples. Sages of Dandakaranya say to Sri Rama that He was their prana. When His Avatar was over Sri Rama returned to Vaikuntam. At that time all - life full and life less , objects and creatures- in Ayodhya cried in sorrow and so Sri Rama carried all of them to Vaikuntam, says Alwar.

66. OM PRANADHAYA NAMA: प्राणदाय नम:
Grants the power to Nityasooris to perform Nitya kainkaryam

We have to get up from bed in the early morning and first put our right foot after praying to Sri Bhhoma Devi. For any auspicious beginning we should first set our right foot. Only when going to a war, one has to first set the left foot and that is why in the march past, it is always left - right convention.
Pranadhaya means He cuts off our prana. That is He grants a superior status for us. Nityasooris are for ever serving the Lord.In Tritakupdama, Kshetragya, Muktanam paramagathi, etc., it was told the power to serve the Lord. It is His will that all these atmans -Nityasoori and Muktatma- are serving the Lord. Swami Koorathalwan compares the Nityasooris to friends of the Lord. Friendship normally blossoms in persons of the same age group. As a friend the Lord has granted close service relationship to these Nityasooris. Now we are all bhaddha or bonded [ by karma]. In Vaikuntam we get released or attain mukti and become Mukthas. But Nityasooris like Adisesha, Garuda, Vishvaksena, etc., have never been bhaddhas anytime.
This feature has been granted by the Lord and so are enjoying like that. He grants both the skill and power. Can these Nityasooris interchange their duties. Theoretically it is possible, but they do not, as everyone gets the benefit and happiness of everyone's service to the Lord. So there is no necessity for Garuda to do Adisesha's service. There is no difference in the bliss experienced by anyone in Vaikuntam. Being suddha satvam, there is no scope for competition nor jealousy.

65. OM ISHANAYA NAMA: ईशा नाय नम:
Absolute and never diminishing Controller of all.

In the next sloka [8] of SVS, ten Divine names are listed. When we get up from sleep in the early morning, we should chant the name of Hari:, seven times. We should first look at our palms, as a palm is the abode of Sri Lakshmi, Saraswati and Sri Govinda. Ishana and Iswara mean one and the same. Administrator and Controller of all. We complain to the Lord our deficiencies but never praise Him for all the other good things done to us. Pathi or Isha means leader and the Lord remains as the Absolute and Supreme God protecting all at all times. We call one as emperor, but if we compare his kingdom with the area of this earth, it will be ridiculously small. That is why when Swami Desika was invited to receive honours from a king, in his Vairagya panchakam, he says, such a small kingdom and a temporary king is nothing before Lord Sri Varadaraja, the King of all worlds and at all times; and so he was content with what the Lord provided him. Lord Sri Ranganatha is called Sri Ranga raja and He holds the power symbol of sceptre [ Tamil sengol -செங்கோல் ]। I [ ई ] also means Sri Mahalakshmi and so Isha means the Darling of Sri Mahalakshmi. Sriyapathi is Jagathpathi.

64. OM PARASMAI MANGALAYA NAMA: परस्मै मंगलाय नम:
Form filled with auspicious qualities

In the divine name Pavitra we realized that by chanting His names we become pious. In the Divine name Mahasvanaya [47], we understood that His name can remove our sins. Poet Kalidasa in his epic Raghuvamsam explores the reason for the name Sri Rama. Vasishta named one as Lakshmana, because he saw the service attitude in him [Lakshmana lakshmi sampanna]. Another was named Bharatha as he would bear the administration of the Kingdom [ rajya bhara]. Another was named Shatrugna as Vasishrta saw in him the will to conquer enemies [ shatru] external and within the body. Vasishta named the eldest Child as Sri Rama, as he saw that this Child would induce auspiciuosness to the World [ jagat prasava mangalam]. When Parvati asks lord Shiva as to which is the single name substitute for SVS, lord Shiva says it is Sri Rama. We must remember that SVS was told by Bheeshma to Yudhishtra, in the presence of Sri Krishna. It means Sri Krishna and Sri Rama are the same Entity. If someone dies in Kasi, lord Shiva chants Sri Rama name in that someone's ears to get better status after death. Swami Koorathalwan , in his Varadaraja sthavam, syas that all auspicious qualities get their credit because they are in Him and not the other way.

63. OM PAVITHRAYA NAMA: पवित्राय नम:
Possessing purest and sacred form.

Pavithram means auspicious. He is more auspicious than the auspicious things we regard. Not only is He auspicious, He makes all those who attain Him also auspicious. Even a great sinner, if ever gets the grace of the Lord, turns pious overnight. Lord has a name Theerthan [embodiment of sacred water]. Just like water washes off dirt, He washes off our sins. Ganges is considered sacred and it emerged from His feet. So contact with Him will make anyone sacred. Some consider atma and body are same. Madhurakavi, while at Kasi in North, saw a brightness and following that reached Thirukkurungudi and found Nammalwar in a tree cavity. Nammalwar was motionless and to test whether he was alive or not, Madurakavi threw a stone near Nammalwar, who opened his eyes and looked at Madurakavi. Then he asks a question as to how the tiny nourishes in a lifeless. [செத்ததின் வயிற்றில் சிறியது பிறந்தால் எத்தை தின்று எங்கே கிடக்கும்?]. This is a very highly philosophical query and reply also is not easy to comprehend. Nammalwar replied it would eat in that and remain there. [ அத்தை தின்று அங்கே கிடக்கும்]. That is the soul remains in the body and thinks body and soul are one and the same and remains in such bodies for ever. Soul does not realize its position and this changes only with the grace of the Lord. Then , atma is able to understand its hidden qualities. A diamond has natural brilliance. But if it is in mud its brilliance is re exhibited only after it is cleaned.

62. OM TRIKAGUPDHAMYE NAMA: त्रिगुपधाम्ये नम:
Resident of Tripadvibhoothi, that is Paramapadham.

Dhama means brightness and living place. Swami Desika in his Yadavabyudayam and Gopala vimsathi, praises the avatar of Sri Krishna in the sloka,
vande brindavanacharam vallabhi jana vallabham
jayanti sambhavam dhama vyjayanthi vibhooshanam.
In the auspicious day of Srijayanthi, Sri Krishna appeared as the floodlight. Trikagupdhama is the name for Vaikuntam or Nitya vibhoothi or Paramapadam or Aparajita or Ayodhya, the place where if we reach will never return back to earth. By the divine name prabhuti, we understand that by Nityavibhooti, His wealth never diminishes. It is also called Tripadvibhoothi and is made of suddha satvam. Our prakruti or Universe is made of a mixture of satvam, rajas and tamas qualities. Rajas and tamas are responsible for our anger, desire, laziness, etc. In Vaikuntam pure satvam alone is there. We can imagine how much happier place this earth would have been if only all of us had only satva quality. Swami Desika compares Vedas as a very large palace and says that Bhagavad Gita is the light in that. Without this light one can not live in a place. With this light we develop satva quality and with Acharyas' teachings we become greedy to reach Moksham, that is Vaikuntam.
Bhagavan means possessing the six qualities- gyana, shakti, balam, aiswaryam, veeram and tejas. The Lord alone is shaadgunya paripoornan [ full of six qualities]. While examining trikagupdama, we have to see these six qualities in three pairs. So He possesses these three pairs and so trikagupdama.
In Sri Varaha avatar, the Lord took the form of a gigantic boar. Sri Andal describes this as manamila panri [மானமிலா பன்றியாய் ]. Here manam means measure or size. Varaham has two protruding teeth and one horn and so these three are indicated by trikagupdama.

61. OM PRABHUTHAYA NAMA: प्रभूता नम:
With no decrement, completely full.

We are in Thirukkandiyur in temple where the Lord is Sri Harasapaharan. This place is near Thiruvaiyaru. Prabhutha means with no reduction or with no defects. All commentators of SVS, in Advaita, Visishtadvaita and Dwaita philosophies are all in agreement that the Lord's qualities are full and complete and there are no defects nor reduction. It is called paripoornam. His activities are complete; His qualities are full with no defects; His avatars are total; His protection of the devotees is also complete. In the last Divine Name prathardhana, it was indicated that He is the Destroyer of all. Then, how He is without defects? This doubt may arise. Normally, if one has wealth and spends it, how can he be wealthy? The Lord is the possessor of the two wealth Nithya vibhoothi [Vaikuntam] and Leela vibhoothi [our Universe]. During pralayam or the great deluge, Nitya vibhoothi is not destroyed. It is permanent wealth and that is the reason we should aspire for.
Prabhutha also means He gives threads for cloth. Draupati's chastity was saved by the Lord by generating infinite threads which formed cloth and protected her.

60. PRATHARDHANAYA NAMA: प्रथरदनाय नम:
Destroys all during pralayam [great deluge]

Today's [13th May 2008] lecture is from Thirukkandiyur, om the banks of Kaveri. The Lord here is Sri Harasapaharan, The Lord removed the curse of lord Haran - Shiva- and so the Lord is called Sri Harasapaharan. When lord Shiva had a curse for cutting off one head of lord Brahma [brahmahatti dosha], he tried many places to get the curse removed and finally with the blessings of the Lord, lord Shiva's curse was nullified. The Lord creates this Universe and later destroys it. The god for death is Mruthyu and he gets his power from the Lord. Though in normal times Mruthyu destroys all; in the great deluge, Mruthyu also is destroyed by the Lord as nothing else than the Lord remains. It is like we eat curd rice with the aid of pickles; but at the end we devour even that pickle also. Mruthyu is only assisting the Lord. One may ask whether this destruction is an act of compassion. Just like a mother makes a child doing mischief, to go asleep so that after wake up, the child behaves better, samharam or destruction gives a new lease of life to refine living.

59. OM LOHITHAKSHAYA NAMA: लोही ताक्षा नम

Nammalwar regrets that he was not born when Lord Sri Krishna was present in this Country. As Sri Krishna the Lord enacted more pranks and delighted the devotees. Nandagopa invited sage Garga to christen the Child Sri Krishna. We should not name our children with any names but only those denoting the Lord. Sage Garga was so delighted to see the child and could not know what best name would suit the Child. But while saying so, he inadvertently stated that he did not know what to name this Child, hey! Sri Krishna. Immediately he realized that Sri Krishna was the most suitable name.
Lohithaksha means eyes resembling lotus flower, which pleases everyone.

58. OM KRUSHNAYA NAMA: कृणा नम:
Always delighted st the Creation.

Both Adi Sankara and Swami Ramanuja have done incomparable service to Vedanta sampradhaya. It is unique that their birth anniversaries fall on the same day. Today [9th May 2008] happens to be one such event. We are to see today's Divine Name of Krishnaya from Thirumala temple at the feet of Lord Sri Srinivasa. This hill is called Venkatam [வேங்கடம்]. Vem means sins. So this hill removes or destroys our sins. Worshiping this Hill itself would remove all our sins, says Alwar. Swami Ramanuja considered this hill so sacred that he did not set his feet on the hill, but crawled the entire route and worshiped Lord Srinivasa. From Swami Thirumalai Nambi, who resided here, Swami Ramanuja learned Srimad Ramayana eighteen times. Swami Ramanuja is reported to have compiled Sri Bhashyam from here only. Lord Sri Thiruvenkatanatha is considered as the Prathyaksha [explicit] Deivam in Kali yug.
Even in billions of years we can never fully perceive Him or His greatness. If anyone says he has understood Him, then he is considered ignorant of Him. But a person who understands that He is beyond our perception, has understood Him. Swami Desika says kannanadi inai emakku kattum verpu [ கண்ணன் அடி இணை எமக்கு காட்டும் வெற்பு] - the hill that shows the lotus feet of Sri Krishna. Creation is a game for Him and so our Universe is called Leela vibhoothi [ playful wealth] for the Lord.
In Sri Varaha Avatar, the Lord redeemed the Universe and so He is called Sri Krishna.
Krishna also means He gives the pleasure of Moksham in this world itself.
Since He was the brother of Sri Balarama, He is also called Sri Ramanuja.

57. OM SASWATHAYA NAMA: शास्वताया नम:
Restless as the Creator, Protector and Destroyer of the Universe at all times.

Adisesha was born as Lakshmana in Thretha yug and as Sri Balarama in Dwaparayug. In Kali yug, Adisesha took the incarnation of Swami Ramanuja. Once, thousands of pundits of various other religions and sampradhayams, met Swami Ramanuja together and waged a debate. Swami Ramanuja sat behind a screen and answered all the questions the pundits asked at the same time. This was possible, because he was none other than the thousand hooded Adisesha. This incident happened in Thondanur, near Thirunarayanapuram. Here, the Lord graces as Sri Narayana and as Sri Parthasarathy.
Saswata means permanent. All the three activities of Creation, Protection and Destruction are done By Him. But these are all a game for Him. Swami Ramanuja states this in the beginning Mangala sthothram of his Sri Bhashyam. Srushti, sthithi and samharam are a play for Him. Not bound by any reason nor requiring any assistance, He creates or destroys at His will or sankalpam. In this He is steadfast and never changes once He decides. He protects His devotees. When Vibheeshana arrived at Sri Rama and surrendered, along with him four others also came. But it was only Vibheeshana who surrendered. But Sri Rama granted asylum not only to Vibheeshana but also for all his associates as well. Even if the associates were in crowds, He would protect them all. This we can not see elsewhere. When in the debate as to whether to accept Vibheeshana or not, all gave various reasons for not accepting him. But Sri Rama, following proper protocol, took the permission of King Sugreeva and declared that He would accept Vibheeshana and no force on earth was capable of waging a fight with Him. Then He requested Sugreeva himself to welcome Vibheeshana. He is steadfast in protecting anyone surrendering unto Him. This greatness is praised in Veda and Vedanta. Thus says Swami Ramanuja.

56. OM AGRAHYAYA NAMA: ॐ अगरा ह्याय नम:
Unperceivable.

Today's [7th May 2008] lecture is from the banks of Kalyani pushkarini in Melkote.
Agrahya means unperceivable, to put it simply. We can not feel Him by our organs. Only in a pure mind He resides, just like the Swan will never resort to dirty water. In Hastigiri Mahatmyam, which traces the history of Kanchipuram, Brahma became egoistic and with pride thought that as he was chanting Vedas flawlessly, Paramatma would surely grace. But his mind became turbulent and could not perceive the Lord. After a long pondering he found the answer and purified his mind and then the Lord also appeared. Mind has to be without kama and krodha, for the Lord to reside.
There is yet another meaning. For any activity three things are needed. Upadhana karanam -raw material(s); sahakarika karanam - implements or tools; and nimitta karanam - person to do. The person doing the product has to collect the raw materials and tools. Then only the product can be found. But, in the product of this Universe, the Lord, Nimitta karanam, does not collect raw materials or tools, but out of His will [sankalpam] He creates the Universe and all others. Since He does not collect or grahya, in Sanskrit, He is Agrahyaya. Sanjaya and Dhridharashtra were classmates under the same teacher. As Swami Ramanuja says, but Dhridharashtra was physically and mentally blind and so never realized Sri Krishna properly. Once Dhridharashtra asked Sanjaya as to how Sanjaya was able to see things properly, while he was not able to. Sanjaya replied that he is not attached to any action and he is not doing for any result. He thinks of the Lord always and so he is able to see things in the right perspective.

55. OM DHRUVAYA NAMA: ओम ध्रुवाय नम:
Even manifesting as everything in the Universe, Himself remains constant

Today's [6th May 2008] lecture is from Melkote aka Thirunarayanapuram. In sandyavandanam daily we chant,
sriranga mangalanidhim karuna nivasam
sri venkatadri shikarolaya kalamegam
sri hasthisailashikarodbava parijatham
srisai namami sirasa yatisaila deepam.
These denote the Kshetrams Srirangam, Thirumala, Kanchipuram and Thirunarayana puram. Of these Thirunarayana puram is not one among the 108 divya desam. But this Kshetram was greatly loved by Swami Ramanuja. The Lord here is Sri Sampathkumara or Sri Selvappillai, fondly called Sri Chellappillai. He is regarded as the pet Child [ Chellappillai] of Swami Ramanuja. When first Swami Ramnuja came here, he noted the absence of Utsavar; and knowing it was in Delhi Bhadhusha [Bahadur Shah] palace, he went to Delhi and brought the Lord and got the idol installed. Like Madurantakam, this is also an Abhimana [favourite] Kshetram. It is considered as Rajadhani [capital] in our sampradayam. King is Swami Ramanuja or Yati Raja and the Prince is Sri SampathKumara. That is why in this Kshetram, first pooja is performed for Swami Ramanuja and then to the Lord.
Dhruvam means resolute or secure. Kasturi is an extract of a gland of a variety of deer. Its fragrance is famous and Lord Sri Ranganatha is called Sri Kasturi Ranga as He has Kasturi as the black tilakam on His forehead. Kasturi fragrance makes the person smelling to be pleased; but kasturi does not undergo any change. So is the Lord. He is changeless. In Srimad Ramayana, when Sri Rama killed Ravana, Ravana's wife Mandodhari comes to see the dead body of her husband. She cries. She sees Sri Rama and calls Him Paramatma, the only instance in entire Ramayana, where Sri Rama is addressed as Paramatma. She addresses, ' Srivatsavaksha.. nityasri.. sasvata: dhruva:'.
