26. OM SHARVAYA NAMA:
Destroyer of evils to living beings which are Body to Him.
Today's[25th March 2008] lecture is from the pond in Devarmalai, called Brahmatheertham. This sacred water, believed to originate from Sri Narasimha in the temple, is capable of washing off all great sins. Due to quarry works nearby, for the last one week or so the water flow has dried up. We can only pray for what has happened due to our indifference.
Last name was sarva, as in Saraswati and this is sharva as in Shiva. Not as in Shanmuka. Both papa and punya entangle us in this samsaram and so both are not helpful to reach Vaikuntam. Swami Desika says what is the use if the handcuffs are of iron [papa] or of gold [punya]? Either way no release for freedom. As Sharva, He destroys both papa and punya so that we are able to ascend to Moksham. Mere surrender unto Him will enable even the worst person to get Moksham. Ghantakarna, a very bad person, realizes his wrong doings and falls at the feet of the Lord and offers with Bhakti, undesirable meat to the Lord, not knowing such things are not to be offered.He was given Moksham along with his brother.
