SVS 19

14. OM PURUSHAYA NAMA:
Bountiful Lord. Delights Muktas by His association.
Today's [7th March 2008] is from Thillaisthanam Sri Srinivasa Perumal temple. Like many Divya Desam situated on the banks of Kaveri, there are some endeared Kshetrams. Among such endeared Kshetrams we saw Kalyanapuram and Pudhu Agraharam. Now we are in Thillaisthanam. Though we use this word purusha to denote males, here it is interpreted as He Who donates excessively. Purusha name occurs twice in SVS. Avyaya, which we saw earlier, means infinite capacity and so can never get reduced even after a largess. In Tamil, Alwar says kolla kuraivilan. As a continuation, therefore, here the Lord is called Purusha, Who bestows gifts generously. He gifts Himself to His devotees and Mukthas. Gopikas desired to have Him only and He bestowed that to their satisfaction. He is called Varada. Will He grant varam [request] or varams [requests]? When we pray, we ask what we immediately need, but the Lord is so bountiful, that His largess includes much more . Purusha also means the motive for our atma, which controls our body.
