SVS 27

22. OM SRIMATHE NAMA:
Most beautiful in Sri Narasimha Avatar.

Brahma was born to[created by] the Lord. But the Lord in Sri Narasimha Avatar appeared from a pillar. So, Swami Vedanta Desikan says, in a way, the pillar is the grand mother of Brahma!! Now, the name Sriman describes the beauty of Sri Narasimha. Alwar says azhagiyanthane, ariyuruvamthane - that is Narasimha form is beautiful. Sri Narasimha is called Sri Azhagiya Singam in temples. By performing pooja or aradhana for Sri Narasimha, the pontiffs or jeers of Sri Ahobila Mutt are also called Azhagiyasingar. Swami Bhattar says Sriman is He Who is Sri Narasimha. Though milk is tasty, sugar mixed milk is sweeter and once sugared milk is tasted, mere milk will not appear tasty. Similarly, the Lord has appeared as a Man or a Beast, but once we worship this Combination in Sri Narasimha, then this form will always be sought for. He appears a terror to sinners. As devotees we need not be afraid of Him.
Sri denotes Lakshmi, and is the Goddess of wealth. The Lord is the possessor of all wealth - both Nitya vibhoothi or Vaikuntam and Leela vibhoothi or our Universe. It is because He is the Darling of Sri Lakshmi. Sri or Bhadram means Auspicious. He possesses Sri and blesses all with auspicious qualities and so He is Sriman.
