SVS 22

17. OM AKSHARAYA NAMA:
Never diminishing pleasure of Mukthas as they immerse in the pleasure of the company of the Lord.
Today's [12th March 2008] lecture is also from Sri Ahobila Mutt, Triplicane. Here two great Acharyas -Swami Vedanta Desikan and Swami Adivann Satakopa Jeer - can be worshiped. Every year for about twenty days the Birthday celebrations of these great Acharyas are conducted. Since Swami Desika got mantropadesam from Sri Lakshmi Hayagriva, worshiping Swami Desika would ensure success in our scholarly pursuit.
Akshara means never declining or always bountiful. His benign qualities are bountiful. His reign of His kingdom is bountiful. He is bountiful to bestow welfare and prosperity on His devotees. Even by granting Himself to His devotees, He is still bountiful to grant further. Akshara also means no blemish at anytime. Mahatma Uddhava asks sage Maitreya, disciple of sage Parashara, to describe the auspicious qualities of the Lord. With that question Maitreya is overwhelmed by ecstasy and his memory went to Vaikunta and so after a great pause he replied Uddhava. Akshara means letters or alphabets. Because, the sound attributed to each letter remains he same for ever. Similarly, the Lord remains same for ever. His devotees also never feel any want in life. When He is there to grant much more than what we want, where is the need to go to anyone else and beg? This is His great concern. In this second sloka we saw His Eight names:
poothatma paramtma cha muktanaam paramamgathi |
avyaya purushosakshi kshetragyo aksharaeva cha || (2)
