SVS 219 [Shasta - 208 contd.] (22.9 contd.)

208. OM SHASTRE NAMA: (continued)

We are at the 100 pillar mandapam between Sri Ahobila Narasimha sannidhi and Sri Varaha Narasimha sannidhi, at Upper Ahobilam. This ancient mandapam might have been constructed about Thousand years ago. Here Swami Adivan Satakopa Yatindra Mahadesika, the First pontiff of Sri Ahobila Mutt, taught his sishyas. Sri Narasimha here married Sri Chenchu Lakshmi Thayar. Sri Lakshmi was born in Chenchu [hunters] community, and so the Lord also is holding bow [at Sri Karancha Narasimha sannidhi], the weapon of Chenchus. Sri Karancha Narasimha corresponds to Bheeshanam [Frightening] in Mantra Rajan. By just remembering His name, all demons and ghosts flee, like animals flee on hearing the roar of lion. Also, invisible diseases and mental agonies are eliminated by remembering His name. Opposite Sri Karancha sannidhi is Anjaneya is seen with folded hands. Once Anjaneya was going in this place. Sri Narasimha in the guise of an Old man was sitting and Anjaneya thought He was someone and tries to cross Him. Suddenly, Hanuman found all his powers were gone and he wondered what the reason was. To his surprise he saw Sri Rama in the place of the Old man! When he went near, again he found the same Old man and he got angry that He was teasing. But now Hanuman saw neither the Old man nor Sri Rama, but Sri Narasimha, with bow and arrows. From that time Anjaneya is appearing before Sri Karancha Narasimha! Anjaneya is also called Sundara, which is the reason for the Fifth canto to get the name Sundara Kandam.
