SVS 218 [Shasta - 208] (22.9)

208. OM SHASTRE NAMA: शास्त्रे नम:
Severely punishes enemies like Hiranya.

Today's [23rd December 2008] Divine name shasta is dedicated to Sri Karanja Narasimha. On the way from Lower Ahobilam to Upper Ahobilam, near the latter, slightly inside, we can visit Sri Sarnga [Karancha] Narasimha. Nearby river Bhavanasini is flowing and a large sarnga tree. Unlike normal Sri Narasimha image, here the Lord is holding a bow!

Holding the Sarnga bow, the Lord appears as Sri Raghava Simham! The Lord displays the Third eye also clearly. Shasta means leader. Kings are addressed as shasta as they rule and command. Kings of Raghu Vamsam, held bow always to show their authority. Sometimes Bhakti makes us to think we have liberty. But we should always have some fear, not the type Hiranyakasipu and others had, but we have to be cautious to follow shruti, smriti and puranas, which are His creations. By not following we might incur His displeasure and so this fear should always be there. Perialwar while describing the swayamvaram of Sri Sita, says that when Sri Rama came with sage Viswamitra, and took the bow [Shiva danush], one could see in Sri Rama's palms, stains of the blood of Hiranyakasipu! He saw Sri Narasimha in Sri Rama and so He is Sri Raghava Simham.
On 25th December 2008, at Sri Krishna mandiram, Malleswaram, Bengaluru, a one day parayanam of Sri Paduka sahasram is to be conducted. On that occasion, 32 bakshyams, 32 fruits and 32 flowers are to be offered to the Lord. All are welcome.
