210. OM SURARIGNE NAMA:
In lower Ahobilam is Sri Ahobila mutt. There Sri Narasimha is gracing as Moolavar; but Utsavar is Sri Rama. Though many stay in this Mutt, they do not notice this. We should remember Sri Karancha Narasimha, where He is also called Sri Raghavasimham. The Lord there graces with Bow. We also saw Hanuman in front of Sri Karancha Narasimha sannidhi. Sri Rama in Ahobila mutt was installed very recently, about 40 years back, by the 44th Jeer, popularly known as Swami Mukkur Azhagiyasingar and who built the tallest Raja Gopuram in Srirangam. Sri Rama is believed to have prayed to Sri Narasimha and that stotram is called Sri Rama Panchamruta stotram. We should not miss to worship Sri Rama here when visiting Ahobilam. By worshiping in this sannidhi and chanting Sri Rama Panchamruta stotram, couples will lead peaceful life and all their differences would vanish.

223. OM SURARIGNE NAMA:
Some years back to visit Sri Pavana Narasimha, Sri Malola Narasimha, Sri Jwala Narasimha sannidhis and Prahalada padi, one had to travel in very difficult terrain. Now, thanks to the present Jeer of Sri Ahobila mutt, Sri Lakshminrusimha Divya paduka sevaka Sri Vansatakopa Sri Narayana Yatindra Mahadesika, many bridges and approach roads have been constructed, making travel easier. Sri Thayar in Upper Ahobilam is Sri Chenchulakshmi Thayar. She appeared in Chenchu community, known for hunting. In Puranas it is said that Sri Chenchulakshmi Thayar loved the Lord Sri Ahobilesa and married Him. She meditated in a very peaceful place and it is called Sri Chenchulakshmi Thayar cave. This is very near Sri Pavana Narasimha sannidhi. The Sixth Jeer of Sri Ahobila mutt entered a cave near Sri Ahobila Narasimha sannidhi, and disappeared. It is believed that even now he is performing pooja to Sri Narasimha inside the cave. The next Jeer, Seventh Jeer, had composed a drama Sri Vasantika parinayam [श्री वासंतिका परिणयम ] in Sanskrit, describing the marriage of Sri Chenchulakshmi Thayar with Sri Ahobilesa. Sri Vasantika is another name of Sri Thayar. One of the maid servants of Sri Thayar in Vaikuntam, wanted to marry the Lord and expressed her desire to Sri Thayar, Who asked her to be born in Chenchu community in Ahobilam. The Lord as Sri Ahobilesa, King of Ahobilam, was in the hill forest, hunting and He met Sri Chenchulakshmi and fell in love with her. With the consent of her parents, He married her. The place where she meditated is near Sri Pavana Narasimha sannidhi. Entrance is like a cave; but after entering we reach a vast hall, where we can sit and meditate, and receive her blessings.

OM SURARIGHNE NAMA:
While listing Bhaktas, Prahlada is mentioned first, even before his guru Narada, though he is the youngest of all. Because he got wisdom while still in his mother's womb. He held unshakable faith in the Lord. We can visit Prahalada padi [பிரகலாத படி] in Ahobilam. This place is where Prahalada was pushed down from the steep cliff.
When he was to be pushed down, Prahalada asked the merciless servants of the King to wait. They thought the boy had changed his mind; but Prahalada, rolled his upper garment and held it as a cushion to his heart, where he believed his Lord was there, so that when he fell down, his Lord should not be hurt! He fell down but was held unhurt by Sri Bhudevi! Such was his Bhakti. Meditating at this place is bound to bring solace and peace to mind. In Mantraraja pada stotram lord Shiva says that all living beings are servants of the Lord [dasa bhuta sarve दासभूता सर्वे ], therefore, lord Shiva says that he was also a servant of the Lord [atohi me api dasa अतो ही में अपि दास: ]. Once again it is requested that when visiting this and such places, please ensure that the tranquility, peace and environment are preserved.

Today [26th December 2008] is Margazh- Kettai [மார்கழி - கேட்டை] Thondaradipodi Alwar birth day. His compilation Thirumalai is very important. It is said thirumalai ariyadhar thirumalai ariyadhar! [திருமாலை அறியாதார் திருமாலை அறியாதார்].
We have already visited all the Nine Sri Narasimha sannidhi. We now visit the most difficult to reach, Ugra sthambam.[उग्र स्थम्बम]
It is situated at a very high place on the hill and it is believed to be the pillar from where Sri Narasimha emerged to kill Hiranyakasipu. Hiranyakasipu asked Prahalada to show Sri Hari in the pillar. To make the belief of Prahalada true, the Lord appeared instantly when Hiranyakasipu hit a pillar at random. This place is above Sri Jwala Narasimha sannidhi and the approach is very difficult. A steel rod is erected on the rock, holding which pilgrims remember Sri Narasimha.

Narasimha
We are at the end of the pilgrimage to Ahobilam. Today's [25th December 2008] Divine name Vishrutatma is dedicated to Sri Chatravata Narasimha, facing East. Banyan [vata] tree is umbrella [chatra] to Him. The corresponding Mantra Rajan name is Mrityumrityu.
Those desiring to excel in music, should worship Sri Chatravata Narasimha. Two Gandarvas [Haha and Huhu], came here and worshiped and got the blessings to excel in music. They worshiped by nama sankeertanam. We can see the face of the Lord pleased to hear music. Swami Annamacharya, sishya of Swami Adivan Satokopa, has composed lyrics in praise of the Lord. This sannidhi is in Lower Ahobilam, on the way to Sri Yogananda Narasimha. The Lord is seated with abhaya hastam and with smiling face.
To help, especially students in the ensuing examinations, Sri Lakshmi Hayagriva, worshiped by Saraswati Devi, Swami Ramanuja and Swami Desika, is gracing the citizens of Chennai, at Sri Ahobila Mutt Oriental school, K.R. Street, West Mambalam, on 27th and 28th, December 2008. All are requested to come and recieve His blessings.

208. OM SHASTRE NAMA: (continued)
We are at the 100 pillar mandapam between Sri Ahobila Narasimha sannidhi and Sri Varaha Narasimha sannidhi, at Upper Ahobilam. This ancient mandapam might have been constructed about Thousand years ago. Here Swami Adivan Satakopa Yatindra Mahadesika, the First pontiff of Sri Ahobila Mutt, taught his sishyas. Sri Narasimha here married Sri Chenchu Lakshmi Thayar. Sri Lakshmi was born in Chenchu [hunters] community, and so the Lord also is holding bow [at Sri Karancha Narasimha sannidhi], the weapon of Chenchus. Sri Karancha Narasimha corresponds to Bheeshanam [Frightening] in Mantra Rajan. By just remembering His name, all demons and ghosts flee, like animals flee on hearing the roar of lion. Also, invisible diseases and mental agonies are eliminated by remembering His name. Opposite Sri Karancha sannidhi is Anjaneya is seen with folded hands. Once Anjaneya was going in this place. Sri Narasimha in the guise of an Old man was sitting and Anjaneya thought He was someone and tries to cross Him. Suddenly, Hanuman found all his powers were gone and he wondered what the reason was. To his surprise he saw Sri Rama in the place of the Old man! When he went near, again he found the same Old man and he got angry that He was teasing. But now Hanuman saw neither the Old man nor Sri Rama, but Sri Narasimha, with bow and arrows. From that time Anjaneya is appearing before Sri Karancha Narasimha! Anjaneya is also called Sundara, which is the reason for the Fifth canto to get the name Sundara Kandam.

208. OM SHASTRE NAMA: ॐ शास्त्रे नम:
Severely punishes enemies like Hiranya.
Today's [23rd December 2008] Divine name shasta is dedicated to Sri Karanja Narasimha. On the way from Lower Ahobilam to Upper Ahobilam, near the latter, slightly inside, we can visit Sri Sarnga [Karancha] Narasimha. Nearby river Bhavanasini is flowing and a large sarnga tree. Unlike normal Sri Narasimha image, here the Lord is holding a bow!
Holding the Sarnga bow, the Lord appears as Sri Raghava Simham! The Lord displays the Third eye also clearly. Shasta means leader. Kings are addressed as shasta as they rule and command. Kings of Raghu Vamsam, held bow always to show their authority. Sometimes Bhakti makes us to think we have liberty. But we should always have some fear, not the type Hiranyakasipu and others had, but we have to be cautious to follow shruti, smriti and puranas, which are His creations. By not following we might incur His displeasure and so this fear should always be there. Perialwar while describing the swayamvaram of Sri Sita, says that when Sri Rama came with sage Viswamitra, and took the bow [Shiva danush], one could see in Sri Rama's palms, stains of the blood of Hiranyakasipu! He saw Sri Narasimha in Sri Rama and so He is Sri Raghava Simham.
On 25th December 2008, at Sri Krishna mandiram, Malleswaram, Bengaluru, a one day parayanam of Sri Paduka sahasram is to be conducted. On that occasion, 32 bakshyams, 32 fruits and 32 flowers are to be offered to the Lord. All are welcome.

Today's [22nd December 2008] lecture is also on the Divine name Durmarshana in Sri Jwala Narsimha sannidhi, at Ahobilam. We remember Thiruppavai pasuram [23] marimalai muzhainjil [மாரிமலை முழைஞ்சில்... ] in this sannidhi. Mangalya sthavam [மாங்கல்ய ஸ்தவம் मांगल्य स्तवं] is a stotram on Sri Narasimha and chanting daily would ensure all auspicious activities in the house. This has been practically realized by many. Though we may not have the capacity of great sages to meditate, it is recommended that when visiting Kshetrams like Ahobilam, we should not make a quick visit and return, but meditate on His Divine names for some minutes at least in each sannidhi.

Enemies like Hiranyakasipu, can not bear Him.
Today's [19th December 2008] Divine name Durmarshana is being studied at the sannidhi of Sri Jwala Narasimha [ज्वाला नरसिम्ह]. Durmarshana suggests that the might of the Lord is so great that enemies could never bear it, out of fear. Hiranya, short form for Hiranyakasipu, also means gold. Just as gold is put in fire to refine it, this demon also was put into the Fire of Sri Narasimha. Therefore, He is Jwala or Fire. To reach this sannidhi one has to climb steep hill and pass through very narrow paths. With all such physical hardships, it is worth a visit in one's lifetime. River Bhavanasini is falling from a height and bridge is constructed to cross and reach the sannidhi. The Lord appears with Hiranyakasipu, on His lap, being torn and killed.
Parantapa also means He causes enemies to struggle. The Divine name Jwalantam in Mantra Rajan is dedicated to Sri Jwala Narasimha.

Divine name Aja: is being dedicated to Sri Pavana Narasimha [श्री पावन नरसिम्ह]. Among the Nava Narasimhas in Ahobilam Kshetram, reaching Sri Jwala Narasimha and the Ugra Stamba [श्री ज्वाला नरसिम्ह, उग्र स्थम्ब], and Sri Pavana Narasimha sannidhis are very difficult. Even reaching the sannidhi of Sri Jwala Narasimha is possible, but reaching Sri Pavana Narasimha sannidhi is so difficult that those who are fortunate to reach and worship, are blessed ones. Even water for drinking will not be available, though this Kshetram has river Bhavanasini. Hard terrain and steep rising paths, make travelling difficult. Still we should try to worship at least once in our lifetime. Since, He eliminates our sins [papa], this Narasimha has this name. Even those who have abandoned varnaashrama dharma [duties prescribed by Shastras], like sandhyavandanam, etc., could worship the Lord here and eradicate the papa accumulated, by not following Shastras. Hunters here are called Chenchu [செஞ்சு] and they consider the Lord here as their community God. The pillar delivered the Lord Sri Narasimha. Normally, a woman, about to deliver a child, has many physical indications. But that pillar which delivered the Lord, did not show any external indications, says Pillai Perumal Iyengar! Since the Lord is considered as the Father of lord Brahma, the pillar in a way is the Paternal Grand mother to lord Brahma! Maha Vishnu in Mantra Rajan is dedicated to Sri Pavana Narasimha. By worshiping the Lord here, greatest sins like bramha hatthi disha [பிரம்ம ஹத்தி தோஷம் - crime of killing a vedic brahmin]. That is why, when sage Bharadwaj, who was affected by bramha hatthi dosha, he worshiped and got all papa cleared.

205. OM STHIRAYA NAMA: ॐ स्थिराय नम:
Steadfast in His love for devotees, despite their mistakes.
Sandhata and Sandhiman Divine names suggested that the Lord unites devotees with Him and never lets them down. The Divine name Sthira indicates that the Lord is steadfast in protecting His devotees, always. Today's [17th December 2008] lecture is from the sannidhi of another Sri Narasimha, situated in a cave on the banks of river Bhavanasini. Sri Narasimha is a combination of Lion and Human forms. But the Sri Narasimha we are to see has Varaha [Boar] face. So, He is called Sri Varaha Narasimha. In Simhadri, in Andhra Pradesh, the Lord is Sri Varaha Narasimha. In Sanskrit this name is Sri Kroda Narasimha. He appeared to redeem Sri Bhudevi, in Varaha Avatar. From Sri Ahobila Narasimha sannidhi, if we go along Bhavanasini, we see a mandapam, where the First Pontiff of Sri Ahobila mutt [Sri Adhivansatakopa yatindra mahadesika] used to teach his disciples, philosophy. We have to proceed further to reach the sannidhi of Sri Varaha Narasimha. The route is devoid of any vegetation. This sannidhi is on the way to Sri Malola Narasimha and Sri Jwala Narasimha sannidhis. Sri Bhudevi has rendered some stotras in praise of the Lord. Chanting them for Five or Seven months, will ensure the person to achieve his ambition, true to the Divine name Sthira. The First name Ugra in Mantra Rajan is dedicated to the Lord here. Once when lord Brahma, out of worry sighed, from his nostril, a thumb sized boar came out and even before any one could identify, the boar grew to gigantic size, beyond one's imagination. Sages and Devas identified the Boar as Sri Narayana, only by the beautiful eyes. That is why lord Shiva, while praising the Lord in Mantra Raja pada stotram, praises the eyes in describing the First name Ugra. The Lord can never hide the beauty of His eyes in whatever form He took.

Swami Sankaracharya has composed Karavalamba stothram on Sri Narasimha. His description of the Lord aptly fits Sri Malola Narasimha. He prays Sri Narasimha to lift him from samsaram and hell. Utsavar of Sri Malola Narasimha is accompanied by the pontiff of Sri Ahobila mutt, Srimad Azhagiyasingar, on tour all over India. When visiting Ahobilam, Azhagiyasingar, performs special poojas for both Moolavar and Utsavar of Sri Malola Narasimha. This is a rare incident and is called Serthi [சேர்த்தி in Tamil, means together]. Since Utsavar Sri Malola is on tour, we can notice the Lord is wearing the sandal [பாதுகை पादुका ] on the right foot, so that He is ready to start on tour! Left foot is folded and is on the seat and so it is not visible. Azhagiyasingars are therefore, titled Sri Lakshmi Narasimha paduka sevaka. There is a spring behind this sannidhi, from which water flows always. The stream thus flowing is called Kanaka nadhi [கனக நதி]. These natural resources should be preserved and maintained free of pollution. Bhadra word in Mantra Rajan is dedicated to Sri Malola Narasimha. Sri Rama is known as Sri Ramabhadra and Sri Balarama is called Sri Bala Bhadra. To indicate them bhadra has to be prefixed or suffixed. But mere Bhadra indicates only Sri Narasimha.

204. OM SANDHIMATE NAMA:
Normally Namperumal indicates Sri Ranganatha. But Thirumangai Alwar calls Sri Malola Narasimha as Nammudai Namperumal [நம்முடை நம்பெருமாள்]. He is the favourite of all! Just like in Srimad Ramayanam, Sri Sita embraced the Lord, when He destroyed 14000 rakshasas, single handed, when He killed Hiranyakasipu, Sri Thayar embraced Him and so Sri Malola. Sandhata indicates that the Lord also comes to the rescue of devotees. He always protects devotees.

204. OM SANDHIMATE NAMA: ॐ सन्धिमते नम:
Ensures the devotee's devotion never disappears.
Yesterday was Thirumangai Alwar Thirunakshtram [birth day]. Today [12th December 2008] is Thiruppanalwar Thirunakshatram [Karthigai - Rohini]. He praised the Lord Sri Ranganatha, from His Divine feet to His head or Crown, in Amalanadhipiran [அமலனாதிபிரான்]. He says the Lord's eyes should be seen when He is Sri Narasimha, killing Hiranyakasipu. Sandhita means the Lord never lets down His devotees. This Divine name is dedicated to Sri Malola Narasimha, Who out of mercy had decided to remain in Garudadri in Ahobilam. There is one speciality of Sri Malola Narasimha. Normally, the Lord is seen embracing Sri Maha Lakshmi, seated on His lap. But here, in addition, Sri Maha Lakshmi also embraces the Lord and so Swami Mukkur Azhagiyasingar, composing the invocation sloka for Sri Ahobila Mutt followers, says 'lakshmya sama alingatha vama bagam ' [लक्ष्म्या सम आलिन्गत वाम भागम]. Commentators say 'itthalayil soulabhyam, atthalayile vaallabhyam' [இத்தலையில் ஸௌலப்யம், அத்தலையிலே வால்லப்யம்]. That is She shows mercy on devotees. in spite of their numerous papa, and orders the Lord to save them. Malola indicates the Lord is very dear to Her.

203. OM SANDHATRE NAMA:
Today is Karthigai -Karthigai, birth day of Thirumangai Alwar, who praised Ahobilam Kshetram. On the banks of Akshaya theertham, Sri Bhargava Narasimha graces. Alwar says that only gods could enter Ahobilam in those days due to extreme weather and terrain difficulties; but now lots of conveyance are available. By worshiping Sri Bhargava Narasimha, all ill effects of planetary changes are nullified. Not only sage Bhargava, but sage Vasishta performed penance for many years here. Every Swati star day, homam is performed in one of the sannidhis of the Nava Narasimha in Ahobilam.

203. OM SANDHATRE NAMA: ॐ सन्धात्रे नम:
Prahalada and other devotees were united with Him during Sri Narasimha Avatar.
Sandhata means the Lord unites His devotees with Himself and He is united with them. Sri Bhargava Narasimha in Ahobilam is associated with this Divine name. Sri Bhargava Narasimha sannidhi is at the foot of Garuda giri, on the way from Allagadda to Ahobilam, slightly inside. The approach is dense, but attractive, forest. When Hiranyakasipu was killed, the Lord Sri Narasimha looked ferocious and it looked even Sri Maha Lakshmi was afraid to go near. But commentators say that both the Lord and Sri Thayar, wanted to reveal to the World the great Bhakti of Prahalada, and so They enacted a drama! Every time the Lord takes Avatar, publicizing the glory of Bhaktas is the main reason and destroying enemies does not need His actual presence. Near the hill is the pond Akshaya theertham. Many sages like Agastya, have meditated here. Water is supplied to Ahobilam from Sri Bhargava sannidhi.

202. OM SIMHAYA NAMA; [continued]
In Brahmanda purana, procedure adopted by Devas to worship Sri Ahobila Narasimha is explained. This sannidhi is surrounded by nature; but care should be taken not to contaminate and pollute the surrounding. River Bhavanasini is being spoiled by visitors. We see a mandapam opposite Sri Ahobila Narasimha sannidhi. The Sixth Jeer, known as Shashta Parankusa Jeer, some 400 years back, entered a cave in the mandapam to perform aradhana inside. He asked none to follow. Till now he has never emerged out of the cave and it is presumed he is still performing pooja. Such a sacred place is this mandapam. Sri Chenchu Lakshmi Thayar is nearby. Swami Ramanuja also is nearby. Veera is attributed to the Lord here. Thirumangai Alwar says that the sky is lit in red hue by the fire generated by the friction of bamboos. He compares this to the blood smeared when Sri Narasimha killed the demon!

202. OM SIMHAYA NAMA: ॐ सिम्हाया नम:
Appeared as Sri Narasimha.
We are in Ahobilam. Lords Brahma and Shiva worship the Lord chanting the Divine name Narasimha, repeatedly. Lord Shiva is gracing in नन्द्याल, near Ahobilam. Ahobila Narasimha is of Salagrama form. The Second name in Mantra rajan - Veera - is attributed to Sri Ahobila Narasimha. Like a lion destroys its opponents by its teeth and nails, the Lord as Sri Narasimha used His nails as weapons to destroy Hiranyakasipu. Near the cave of Sri Ahobila Narasimha, we can see lord Shiva in linga form and lord Brahma in another cave.

SVS 206 [201 -Sarvadhruk ] (22.2)continued
201. OM SARVADRUSHE NAMA: [continued]
Bathing in Bhavanasini river and donating a morsel of food is equal to donating food to 1000 qualified Vedic Brahmins. The Lord described in the Divine name simha: blesses us with all fortunes. Nammalwar is called Satakopa, as he vanquished sata air, cause of ignorance of the Almighty and other noble knowledge. Nammalwar was residing in a tamarind tree and so his Thiruvaimozhi originated from that tree. Similarly, Bhavanasini river originates from under a tamarind tree. Garudasailam at Ahobilam, Tirumala hills and Srisailam, appear together like the huge serpent Adisesha. Head is in Venkatadri, middle body at Ahobilam and tail at Srisailam. Ahobilam is near Alaghatta in Cudappah in Kurnool district. Road from lower Ahobilam to upper Ahobilam is well laid. Presently, Ahobilam is developed very well. In upper Ahobilam, the Lord as Sri Narasimha is in swayambu form, inside a cave.

201. OM SARVADHRUSHE NAMA: ॐ सर्वध्रुशे नम:
Sees everything and understands.
Sarvadhruk means the Lord sees everything; it is same as sarvatomukham. In the mangala sloka of his works, Swami Nathamuni says that he prostrates to the Lord, Who sees everything, always. Prahalada says engum ulan kannan [எங்கும் உளன் கண்ணன்], says Alwar. Sri Yogananda Narasimha sannidhi is easy to approach and is just 2 or 3 KMs from lower Ahobilam.

Ahobilam is also called Garudasailam. Lord blessed Garuda and thus this place is called Garudasailam. The Lord is gracing as Sri Yogananda in Vedadri region here. In Mantra Rajan, the Lord is called Mrutyumrutyu. It means no more rebirths. By worshiping Sri Yogananda, we get yogam and happiness. Once Ahobilam was inaccessible. Lions used to offer meat of elephant to the Lord before eating. They offered elephant tusks as gifts to the Lord, says Alwar.
