SVS 58

52. OM THVASHTRE NAMA: त्वष्टरे नम:
Responsible for distinguishable [such as deva, manushya, etc.] creations.

Thvashta indicates the creation involving specific forms and names. In Creation [srushti], there are two stages -samashti srushti and vyakti srushti. Swami Ramanuja has in detail described these in his Vedartha sangraha, Sri Bhashyam and Gita bhashyam. Swami Parasara Bhatta has followed this in his explanations. Vyakti srushti means distinguishable creations. Samashti srushti is integrated creation. The Lord first creates the samshti srushti; then with Brahma, all various distinguishable creations such as Devas, human, animals, etc and they are all given identifying names. Thvashta indicates the Lord responsible for the vyakti srushti. We have got our body from prakruti, by the grace of Lord. We are to use every organ in His service. To stop this endless birth cycles, we have to serve the Lord; for that we require a body and this body He has given should be used for serving Him and reach the Ultimate goal. That is the way to be in gratitude to Him.
