144. OM BHOJANAYA NAMA: ॐ भोजनाय नम:
Devotees enjoy His experience sweetly, like eating.
Lord Sri Hayagriva has the white lustre of milk-quartz [ஸ்படிகம்] and is on a white lotus flower, with Sri Saraswati. Here, Saraswati does not indicate the consort of lord Brahma; but it denotes Sri Maha Lakshmi. Once Vedas were stolen away from lord Brahma, by the two demons Madhu and Kaitapa. This made Brahma extremely sorrowful, as he could not perform his creation duty. The Lord took the Sri Hayagriva form and after destroying the demons, He taught Vedas to lord Brahma. Svetasvopanishad is important. Sveta + asva + upanishad = Upanishad of White Horse [faced Sri Hayagriva]. By worshiping Sri Hayagriva we can destroy our ignorance. It is more important to worship the Lord on September 12th, as it is Shravana [star] Dvadashi. The Lord is like tasty food for His devotees. For Alwar the Lord was the food, water and tasty eatables [உண்ணும் சோறு பருகும் நீர் தின்னும் வெற்றிலை]. We have to consume only food offered to the Lord. Perialwar says he remains like without food [பட்டினி நாள்] on those days he could not see Him or chant His names.

SVS 146 [Bhrajishnu-143] (16.1)
143. OM BHRAJISHNAVE NAMA: ॐ भ्राजीष्णवे नम:
Capable of appearing to those who worship Him, mentioned as Para roopa.
The speech of those who meditate on Sri Hayagriva, will be like the torrent flow of Jhanavi or river Ganges. Swami Desika was administered the Hayagriva mantra by Garuda in Thiruvahindrapuram and was able to see Lord Sri Hayagriva. On September 12th, the Avatar day of Lord Sri Hayagriva, special poojas are to be performed in Thoopul, Thiruvahindrapuram, Chettipunyam [near Madras] and in many scholars' houses. He will ensure very good education for the children. The starting slokas in SVS, 'shuklambharadharam...' denote Sri Hayagriva. Earlier Divine name chaturbhuja suggested that the Lord is with Four hands. Here, bhrajishnu means He appears with Four arms to those who meditate on Him. In Srimad Ramayana, after the slain of Ravana, his wife Mandodari arrives at the battlefield to see the dead body of Ravana. Sri Rama had not met her earlier; nor, she had seen Sri Rama earlier. She laments that Ravana, who conquered Indra and others, should not have abducted Sri Sita and should not have fought with Sri Rama. Because, she says that He is the 'paramatma sanathana:' - the Almighty God. The Lord Sri Rama appears to her alone with Four arms. In a pasuram Perialwar says 'appoochi kattunginran' [அப்பூச்சி காட்டுகின்றான்], which means frightening other children with eyeballs rolling. It seems Sri Krishna was doing this, while playing with His freinds. Arayars [அரையர்], are experts in explaining Alwars' pasurams in dances. Once, when Swami Ramanuja was seated when Arayars were dancing to Perialwar's pasurams. For appoochi, they rolled their eyes. When this word again came in the next pasuram, Arayars instead of rolling the eyes, acted as the Lord holding the discus and conch; or, in other words display of Four arms. On seeing this change, Swami Ramanuja quipped, whether Swami Embar tutored the Arayar. Swami Embar was seated behind Swami Ramanuja and he corrected the Arayar to show the Four arms bhava.

SVS 145 [Chaturbhuja 142] (15.8)
142. OM CHATHURBHUJAYA NAMA: ॐ चतुर्भुजाय नम:
In the Para Vasudeva form, He has Four arms.

Thiruvonam is an important day and falls on 12th September, 2008. Avani Thiruvonam is very important. It is the Avatar day of Sri Hayagriva, Acharya of goddess Saraswati, and Who taught all Vedas and other texts. It is beneficial for children to worship the Lord as Sri Hayagriva, to acquire knowledge. Today's [8th September 2008] Divine name suggests the Lord with Four hands. In the above sloka, one palm of the Lord is in vyakya mudra or in preaching style. In another arm the Lord is holding Vedas. Upper Two arms are holding discus and conch. Swami Desika addresses Sri Hayagriva as Vagisakya Vasudevasya Murthy. The Lord was born to Devaki in the midnight in jail; but was born with Four arms, with all robes and ornaments, and divine weapons. At His mother's request, He changed Himself to the form of a normal child.

SVS 144 [Chaturdhamshtra- 141] (15.7)
141.OM CHATURDHAMSHTRAYA NAMA: ॐ चतुर्दंष्ट्राय नम:
As Sri Para Vasudeva in Vyuha murti, He has four canine teeth.
When we visit temples we should appreciate the beauty of the Lord. Sri Sita was put to immeasurable sorrow at Ashoka vana by Ravana. When Anjaneya meets Her, She asks Anjaneya to describe Sri Rama's beauty. Lakshmana says that he preferred to be Sri Rama's servant and not as His brother. Hanuman describes the Lord having four prominent beautiful teeth.

SVS 143 [Chaturatma -139, Cahturvyuha - 140] (15.5, 15,6)
139. OM CHATURATMANE NAMA: ॐ चतुरात्मने नम:
Having the Four Vyuhamurti -Vasudeva, Sankarshana, Pradhyumna and Aniruddha.
140. OM CHATURVYUHAYA NAMA: ॐ चतुर्व्यूहाय नम:
In the above Four Forms, possessing jagrat, swapnam, sushupti and turyam stages.
We are in Dasavatara sannidhi in Srirangam. In mantra mahodhadhi, worshiping Sri Narasimha is elaborately explained. Worshiping Him will give the same pleasure as seeing Thousands of Moon at the same time. Delightfully seated on His left lap, Sri Lakshmi looks at Him with pride. To understand the Four Vyuha murthy, one has to seek a proper Acharya and get detailed explanation. Very superficially we can understand these Divine names. Jagrath is the awakening state [opposed to sleeping]. Next is the intermediate stage between sleep and awake. Because in swapna or dreams, our mind is still awake. Sushupti is sleep, when even mind is at rest. Turyam is unconsciousness or fainted state. How they are related to the Vyuhamurthi is very complicated and has to be learnt in detail from an Acharya.

The Lord represents Pravrutti Dharma, yielding temporary rewards and Nivrutti Dharma yielding everlasting Moksham. Today [2nd September 2008] [ ஆவணி ஹஸ்தம்] is an important day. SVS 141 [Kruthakrutha -138] (15.4)
138. OM KRUTHAKRUTHAYA NAMA: कृताकृताय नम:
He is in the rewards yielding Pravrutti Dharma and in Moksham yielding Nivrutti Dharma.
Dharma is classified as Two. Pravrutti Dharma and Nivrutti Dharma. In Pravrutti Dharma, one does yagna and other pooja with some reward as objective. Dasaratha performed Puthrakameshti yaga to beget children. Some Kings perform 100 Aswamedha yaga to get the post of Indra. While in Nivrutti Dharma, one might perform the same ceremonies mentioned above and others but without seeking any reward [like Sri Mukkur Swami's Maha Narasimha Swati Maha yagna]. This is explained in Gita as Satvika tyagam. We do all Vedic rites for His pleasure only.
